Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is this “jam-music” anyway?
According to the online Wikipedia “a jam session is a musical act where musicians gather and play (or simply “jam”) without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements; improvisation.”
We have built upon this concept and all of our music is created through spontaneous improvisation. Our experience is that really beautiful and expressive music can be created this way, it can be very awarding both for the performer and for the open-minded listener.
Q: What is your motivation for creating this kind of music?
Quoting one of the jammers: “I have been playing music and performing in bands for many years and I have seen again and again that the best music never leaves the rehearsal room. Often I find that a song or a solo or whatever sounds best the very first time it is played. Sure, it may have faults and imperfections, but still that vibe and vitality is just something else.”
It can often be inspiring just to hear people play, it does not always have to be so structured and produced, the one that looks closely will discover that every sound’s got a story to tell.
Q: What is the goal with your music?
The goal is that the performers, despite all their differences, connect in such a way that the sounds they create becomes both rhythmically and harmonically balanced and so beautiful music occurs.
Q: How is your music recorded?
We are very careful to get the best sound quality possible, the equipment we use are of very high standards and the recordings are hi-fi (unless intentionally otherwise). We leave a lot of room for artistic freedom and a ‘sound’ may be the subject of experimentation just as any other element. The recording process is built upon the same concept of spontaneity as the rest of the music. The mixing of the sounds is done live, the mixer setup is seen as sort of an instrument in itself. Most of the time the music is recorded directly to one stereo track and no further mixing is done, it is part of the performance. The music is always mastered carefully to improve the listening experience.
Q: Do you have any listening advices regarding your music?
First of all, this kind of music is best conceived through a full range stereo system. The dynamics and the small nuances are an essential part of the expression and are impossible to reproduce through a PC-speaker. It is then far better to use a decent set of headphones. For full enjoyment you should have at least a mid-range stereo system that is able to reproduce the full range of the frequency spectrum and has a good dynamic range.
Having said that we will suggest some usages where we find that the music has a particular strength :
1. A pure listening experience – when you’ve got a grand stereo system, a great listening room and no neighbours.
2. Background music – in contrast to a lot of music it will not demand your attention all of the time so it works great in a setting where you want to encourage conversation, but you also want a lively atmosphere. Just pick a jam that suits your mood.
3. Music to work – a lot of people find that the music is great when they’re surfing the internet, writing a theses, cleaning their house or programming for Microsoft.
4. Inspiration – if you’re painting a painting, designing a poster or writing a novel.
